Accessing a database or article from off campus, works similarly to the process on campus. The big difference is that you will need to make sure you are logged into MyYCP. Doing this let's the databases know that you are a student and allowed to have access.

Once you have logged in, you should be able to access any of our databases normally by searching for sources in Summon or by accessing individual databases directly.

In very rare cases when you are accessing a database like SciFinder, which requires you to create an account on campus when you use it for the first time, you can do so off campus by remotely logging into a computer on campus first.

If you are having difficulty accessing our databases from off campus, there are a few steps you will want to take to help diagnose and correct the problem:

  1. Log into MyYCP
  2. Search for the title of your source in Summon.
  3. Switch browsers (Chrome and Firefox work best)
  4. Make sure the URL for your link begins with "https://ezproxy.ycp.edu:8443/login?url=" (without quotes).
  5. If you are on a public network (such as at a coffee shop, airport, or employer's wifi), there is a known, common conflict between public networks and library proxies. Try switching to cellular data or continuing research from at home. If you need immediate access to a source before then, contact us for assistance.
